Williams Derek
Derek Williams comes to ABC after successfully leading the Wilberforce Athletic Department over the past seven years. During his time at Wilberforce he served as the Athletic Director, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Head Women’s Cross Country Coach and as an adjunct professor in Health and PE.
During his time at Wilberforce, Coach Williams led the Women’s Basketball Program to two NAIA National Tournament appearances. He was instrumental in the return of Baseball after an 80 year hiatus at Wilberforce through the development of a partnership with the Cincinnati Reds, while also leading over 85% of the student-athletes to graduation. Before Wilberforce, Coach Williams had a successful stint at Cincinnati Christian University, where he successfully transformed the women’s basketball program. Prior to Cincinnati Christian University, Coach Williams was on staff at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College where he served in various roles from assistant coach to Interim Head Coach. While at Cincinnati State, the women’s basketball team won conference and district titles leading them to a NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) National Tournament Berth.
A Cincinnati native, Williams spent 15 years as a High School Girls and Boys Basketball Coach in Cincinnati Public Schools. Coach Williams holds a Masters degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University-Irvine in Irvine, California and a Bachelors degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy, Daphne, AL.
